Can You Plant a Mango Tree Near a House?

Whether you are trying to grow mango trees for the first time or you are trying to increase your current mangoes production, knowing the right spacing for mango trees is essential. The spacing depends on your type of mango, but in general, you should be able to plant a mango tree at least ten meters away from a building or other structure. However, you should check with your local nursery to determine the proper spacing for your particular mango.

A good location for mango trees is in a sunny, open area that is sheltered from strong winds. They like moist, well-draining soil. They can tolerate arid climates but not cold temperatures. They prefer an average temperature of 27-38 deg C, with a temperature of at least eight to ten hours of sun daily.

When you are planting a mango tree, you should have at least two main branches. Make sure you leave space between branches for the trunk to grow. You may also need to prune off dead or damaged wood. This will help maintain the tree's container-friendly size. You can also prune a mango tree after it has finished fruiting in the fall.

A mango tree's root system will grow and compete for nutrients if you plant it too close to other trees and structures. The soil in your mango tree planting hole should be moist. The area around the tree's roots should be free of weeds and grass. The top several inches of soil should be moist, but not soggy. The tree will respond best to watering directly above its roots. If the soil around the tree is too dry, the tree will not be able to thrive.

If you are planting a mango tree in a pot, you will need to remove the dirt and sand from the bottom of the pot. If the soil is too sandy, you may need to add more fertilizer.
